The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Shane Guyant:

On Thursday two Northampton County women were arrested after Captain J. Baggett responded to a bank on East Tenth Street on a call that a person with warrants was on the property.

Theresa Angelina Whitfield was wanted in Northampton for larceny of chose in action.

Baggett encountered Whitfield as she exited the bank.

The 51-year-old Pleasant Hill woman resisted by pulling away and yelling for her daughter to get her purse.

During the struggle to arrest Whitfield, Teneara Angelique High, 31, interfered by yelling and grabbing the purse while her children were in a vehicle.

Whitfield kicked Baggett in the leg as he was securing her in his patrol vehicle. Sergeant J. Spragins assisted.

High, also of Pleasant Hill, was arrested for interfering in the arrest of her mother. She initially resisted but was handcuffed.

A search of Whitfield’s purse revealed 1.2 grams of powdered cocaine in a dollar bill as well as a marijuana grinder and straw with cocaine residue.

Whitfield was charged with felony possession of cocaine, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting a public officer, and misdemeanor assault on a government official.  She was also served with the felony warrant from Northampton County.

Whitfield was jailed in the Halifax County Detention Center under a $4,000 secured bond. She remains in custody with a February 25 district court date.

High was charged with two counts of resisting a public officer and received a $500 bond. She has the same court date as her mother.

The children were turned over to their father.

Wallet theft

On January 17 police investigated the report of a theft of a wallet from a shopping cart of a sítio business.

The victim had several credit cards inside the wallet and after the larceny noticed several transactions that they had not made.

These transactions included a purchase from a gas station on Julian R. Allsbrook Highway.

The suspect was driving a gold Honda Accord.
